Need to “let it all out?” There’s a treatment for that. Scream therapy, also called primal therapy, is becoming a popular way for people to deal with stress and anxiety, and now Scream Club has become a thing. There are several chapters of the club that have sprung-up around the country since last winter, and it’s exactly what it sounds like. Around 12 members of the Washington DC chapter stood in a circle at the end of District Pier on Sunday, started with some breath work, and then started screaming. The organizers say it’s not therapy…just a way to let off steam. Why the end of District Pier? Because the group doesn’t need a permit to scream on private property. The concept was developed in the 1960s by psychologist Arthur Janov, who believed screaming could help release emotional pain from past trauma.
