In case you missed it...
Megan Moroney is making history. She's the first-ever winner of the MTV Video Music Award for Best Country Artist. The 27-year-old hitmaker was recognized for her chart-topping hit, "Am I Okay?" Chris Stapleton, Cody Johnson, Carrie Underwood, Jelly Roll, Lainey Wilson, and Morgan Wallen were also nominated. This year marks the first time in its 40-year history the VMA's have included a country category.
And speaking of Megan Moroney, she, Ella Langley, and Lainey Wilson lead the nominations for this year’s Country Music Association Awards, announced yesterday, with six nods each. The three women compete against each other in four categories — Single, Song, Female Vocalist, and Musical Event of the Year. Wilson is nominated for Entertainer of the Year, alongside current title holder Morgan Wallen, Luke Combs, Cody Johnson, and Chris Stapleton. Other top nominees include Zach Top with five; Riley Green and Cody Johnson with four each; and Combs, Stapleton, Wallen, Kristian Bush, Carson Chamberlain, and Charlie Handsome, who have three nominations each.
Country music stars Jordan Davis, Karen Fairchild, Dustin Lynch, and Brothers Osborne have been added as special guest advisors to CBS's new music competition series "The Road." The show, executive-produced by Blake Shelton and Taylor Sheridan, premieres Sunday, October 19th at 9 pm on CBS and will stream on Paramount+. The series features 12 emerging musicians competing as opening acts for GRAMMY winner Keith Urban at music venues across America. Keith Urban headlines the show alongside Shelton, Sheridan, and "Tour Manager" Gretchen Wilson. The live venue audiences will help determine who advances to the next city, with only one triple threat artist winning the grand prize. The show is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and several production companies.
