  • Man Scammed Into Buying 300 Years Of Gym Membership (REAL

In case you’re feeling taken advantage of, there’s someone who has it worse…much worse. A Chinese man named Jin was scammed into spending over $121,000 on 300 years of gym memberships at a fitness center in Hangzhou. The scam started when salespeople approached him with a fake investment scheme, claiming he could buy discounted memberships and resell them for double the price with only a 10% commission. They promised full refunds if the memberships couldn't be sold within two months. Over several months, Jin bought nearly 1,200 classes and 300 annual memberships, spending a total of 871,273 yuan, or over $121-thousand. When the refund deadline arrived last month, the sales staff, manager, and owner had all disappeared with their phones disconnected. Jin ended up with 26 thick contracts that clearly stated the memberships were non-transferable, meaning he couldn't resell them as promised. He's now filed a lawsuit to try to recover his money, but lawyers warn it will be difficult since the scammers have vanished.
