- Dutch Weather Forecaster Says Belgium Is Stealing Their Wind (REAL)
We have a new term…”wind theft.” The Netherlands claims Belgium is reducing their wind energy by placing wind farms in the North Sea southwest of Dutch turbines. Remco Verzijlbergh, a Dutch weather forecasting expert, explained that winds often come from the southwest. Belgium’s turbines catch the wind first, slowing it down before it reaches the Netherlands. The expert says that the theft of the wind by Belgium results in Dutch wind farms receiving weaker winds and producing less energy. Verzijlbergh noted that a single turbine creates a wake of slower wind behind it, and an entire wind farm amplifies this effect. The two countries are collaborating to find better turbine placements to ensure both benefit from the wind.
