Joan Rivers was placed in a medically induced coma on Thursday, according to a source close to the veteran comedian.

The Fashion Police host was listed as stable but was still in critical condition after falling into cardiac arrest while undergoing routine throat surgery.

"They were putting a scope down her throat to check her vocal cords," a source told E! "This was not major surgery." Joan was under sedation at the time.

Joan’s daughter, Melissa, issued a statement that reads, “I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming love and support for my mother. She is resting comfortably and is with our family. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers.”

Celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres, Kathy Griffin and even country’s own LeAnn Rimes have taken to Twitter to wish Joan well wishes and a speedy recovery.
